Audio Documents, operating as Audocs, is a music software and services company founded by William Robinson on April 7, 2008.[1][lower-alpha 1] The company built a platform for packaging, delivering, and placing creative works physically and digitally, and later developed it into a delivery and marketplace system for artists and labels. It launched the download product DNLD in 2011 and a distribution and fulfillment service for FKACO in 2012. The Footprints Catalog is seeded from the Audocs platform, and in 2026 Audocs became the first partnership of the relaunched FORM.

History

Founding and early services (2008–2012)

Audio Documents was founded by William Robinson (Muhammad Hasan) on April 7, 2008, to help small businesses and artists package, deliver, and place creative works physically and digitally.[1] A related Audocs product, DNLD, was launched in 2011 and has been maintained by Audocs since its conception.[2][lower-alpha 2] According to a company publication, Audocs launched its "FKACO Music Holdings, Distribution, Logistics & Merchandise Fulfillment" service in 2012,[2] the service out of which Formerly Known As Company began private operations the same year.

Incorporation and platform development (2013–2025)

Robinson incorporated Audio Documents in October 2017 and established Audocs SDN BHD in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.[1] In 2018, Audio Documents resurrected REQUIRED, a West Coast independent label established in 1998; the label moved over to FKACO in 2025.[3]

On the platform side, Audocs developed into a delivery and marketplace system in which artists and labels upload audio, cover art, and metadata. The company prepared a front-end metadata, storage, and marketplace launch in 2024, offering curated streaming, NFT marketplace sales, and manufacturing services including small-run vinyl, CD, and USB, with on-demand runs of 1 to 3,500 units.[4] Audocs offers labels in-house royalty splits of 90/10 on marketplace sales,[4] and production masters and associated metadata remain the property of the artists or labels.

FORM partnership and the Footprints Catalog (2026)

Following FORM's strategic relaunch in 2026, its first partnership was with Audio Documents, extending FORM's technological and digital distribution arm on the Audocs infrastructure, including the Audio Documents platform and its Telet Core engine. Under the FORM umbrella, Audocs continues its "Hang Loose" policy toward creators.[5]

In October 2026 the Footprints Catalog — a discography database covering the catalog's labels, artists, releases, recordings, and SESAC works — was seeded from the Audocs database and published on the Audocs platform. Audocs also operates as a label in its own right: the 30 Year Anniversary Reissue of Usephasan's Chemistry Teraqueous EP was released on the Audocs label.[lower-alpha 3]

Operations

The Audocs platform combines audio delivery, cover art, and metadata in one system; artists and labels upload their material together with its descriptive data for distribution and sale. Its services include a marketplace with 90/10 in-house royalty splits for labels,[4] manufacturing on demand in runs of 1 to 3,500 units including small-run vinyl, CD, and USB,[4] and the DNLD download product.[2] Audocs admits artists through a "signing-up" model — a hybrid of formal agreement and service registration — with entry points offered quarterly.[5] Artist pages and label catalogs, including the Footprints Catalog, are published through the platform, with custom domains connected for individual artists and labels.

The company's applications are collected in the Audocs Unified Dashboard.[6]

Notes

  1. ↑ The company's identity is documented in independent directories: its Crunchbase profile gives the legal name Audio Documents, Inc., founder William Robinson, and a headquarters in Roseville, California; its label page on Discogs links the audocs.com and audiodocuments.com domains and a MusicBrainz label entry. Similarly named but unrelated companies trade on variations of the name — among them AODocs, a document-management platform, and AudD, a music-recognition service; neither is connected with Audio Documents.
  2. ↑ DNLD is Audocs' download product, described in company materials as its NFT-based marketplace. The company states it launched in 2011 and has been maintained by Audocs since its conception.
  3. ↑ Label Code LC 104537 and the Chemistry Teraqueous reissue attribution were supplied by the catalog owner, October 2026.
